If you’re washing your hair like this, you’re doing it wrong

While it may seem like the most natural thing ever, there are a few simple things to keep in mind when washing your hair. Read more below on some of our easy tips to make sure that your hair is always in tip-top shape after a hair-wash.

You’re washing your hair too much

Washing your hair every day might seem like you’re doing yourself a favour when actually, you’re causing more harm than good. In a similar sense, not washing your hair enough can leave you with build-up, breakouts and clogged pores on your scalp. Read our post here on a more in-depth explanation on how often you should be washing your hair.

You’re using the wrong shampoo

Using the correct shampoo for your hair type is perhaps the most important thing you can do to ensure that your hair-washing regime is done correctly. However, before deciding on a shampoo, make sure that you know what hair type you have so that you can not only get the correct shampoo but conditioner as well. Read our post here if your hair is straight or wavy, or our post here if your hair is curly or coily

You’re using too much shampoo

Even though it might seem that the more shampoo you use, the cleaner your hair will be, this is quite untrue. Using too much shampoo can cause product-build-up and even leave your hair feeling and looking oily. A good way to make sure that you cleanse your hair properly would be to shampoo your hair twice before conditioning. To do this correctly, make sure that all your hair is wet before applying a very little shampoo to the palm of your hands. After lathering it up, apply it to your scalp to help absorb the excess oil from your hair. Rinse well before repeating with more shampoo and cleansing the ends of your hair as well.

If you find that your hair has too much product build-up from previous washes or that it needs some TLC, then be sure to try the CHI Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner to gently cleanse your scalp and remove grease and dirt.

You’re using water that’s too hot

If you find that you shower in super hot water, it might be wise to turn the temperature down before washing your hair. Using water that is too hot can not only burn your scalp but cause your strands to dry out faster, leaving you with breakage, split ends and brittle locks.

You’re using a towel

We’ve said this before and we’ll say this again, but using a towel to dry your hair is the fastest way to cause damage and breakage. If you’re taking the time to wash your hair correctly, then using a towel to dry it off will cancel out all the effort. If you can’t find a microfiber towel, then use a soft, old t-shirt to gently dab the water from your hair before allowing it to try.
