3 DIY asks to treat brittle hair this Winter

While it is no secret that winter causes a myriad of problems, dry and damaged hair can be fixed with some easy homemade recipes. Our hair also suffers more in winter as we are more likely to use heat to dry it faster which can increase damage to our strands. Have a look at some of our favorites below to whip up in your kitchen and heal your brittle strands in no time.

Banana Mask

Ripe bananas have many uses for your skin and body, but did you know that you can use it to help with super dry hair? The natural oils and potassium in bananas help to soften hair strands and prevent split ends and breakage. Mixing it with avocado means that you’re promoting hair growth and increasing shine. Simply mix 1 ripe banana with a ½ avocado and some melted coconut oil until it makes a smooth paste. Apply it to your hair and allow it to sit for 30 minutes. Wash out thoroughly with warm water before shampooing and conditioning.

Avocado Mask

If a dry and itchy scalp is your nemesis this winter, then we highly recommend making this super creamy avocado mask. While it might seem like a lot of avocados. Kourtney Kardashian swears by this recipe so it’s definitely a must! Avo is a natural Detangler and not only makes your hair super shiny but provides intense moisture for a dry scalp. The addition of oil helps to soothe your strands, promoting softness and smoothness.

Blitz together:

1 ½ avocado

½ lemon juice

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp honey

Apply this mixture from your roots to tips and cover with a shower cap or warm towel. Rinse out with warm water before shampooing and conditioning.

 Coconut Milk Mask

While this might seem odd, using a mixture of coconut milk, honey and lemon in your hair not only moisturises your scalp and strands but hydrates your scalp and minimises dandruff. Simply whisk together ½ cup coconut milk with 1 tsp honey and 1 tbsp lemon juice until well combined. You might need to slightly melt the honey to ensure that it seamlessly mixes in with the milk. Apply the mixture to your hair and scalp, being careful not to spill. Cover your head with a shower cap or warmed towel and leave on for 25 - 30 minutes before rinsing out. If you have dark or colour treated hair, then try not to do this too often as the lemon might bleach your hair.
